OVERDUE MATERIAL AND FINES
The library encourages its users to return
materials promptly after use so that other patrons may have use of them.
Lost or destroyed items should be reported immediately to avoid fines and
other charges.
- Five (5) cents per LIBRARY day per item is
charged for overdue books and periodicals/magazines. A maximum fine up
to the actual value of the material plus processing and replacement
costs will be charged.
- Three dollars ($3.00) per day per audiovisual
item --videotape or books-on-tape-- is charged for overdue items with a
one business-day grace period following the due date. The actual
replacement cost of the material plus processing will be charged for
lost or user-damaged items.
- A charge may be assessed by the librarian for
any user-damaged material returned to the library.
- Any person failing to return books or other
library materials due to their loss or destruction will be assessed a
fine and replacement costs as indicated above until their notification
of the loss to the library. If after the efforts of the Librarian for
the return or replacement of library material have failed, the matter
will be turned over to the City Attorney for further action.
- Library privileges may be suspended at the
discretion of the Librarian for repeated failure to return items or to
clear fines incurred. The suspension of privileges may be
temporary or may be permanent.
- An "amnesty day" for returning library
materials without fine may be held at the Librarian's discretion.
The amnesty does not clear previous fines or replacement costs.
